I understand wanting a chill game, a safe space, but it's so perfect that the cracks of the fake reality are visible. I found ironic that the game tries to touch upon impostor syndrome yet makes me feel like my accomplishments, whether I put effort on it or not, will be praised and that nothing that I make matters because NPCs will idolize everything. The -2 is because some of the positive dialogue felt uncanny and surreal, too much positive reinforcement, too many empty compliments. Nonetheless, play on PC if able, a mouse seems more immersive. I haven't tried to use the touch screen on my Nintendo Switch as I only play docked, but it's a pity that the game hasn't been released on the 3DS era, that would have been a perfect match. For example, Okami was such an experience because the Wii's controls were intuitive for drawing. My biggest complaint is that drawing with a controller is unintuitive and breaks immersion a lot. The OST is amazing, Lena Raine did a wonderful job yet again. An absolute must-play.ġ1h 28m PlayedVery chill game with so many positive messages, and the idea of a game being a color book is quite fun. It scratched an itch I didn't know I had, and leaves me wanting so much more from this world. There are a surprising amount of side activities as well, from basic hidden outfits and collectibles, to entire side quests involving detective work, mailing letters, and taking art lessons. Traversal is excellent, and the methodical progression of new movement and elements to exploration came at just the right moments. It's a wild combination, and though I don't draw, paint, or create much in visual arts, I loved being able to splash color everywhere and just make the black and white world come alive. It's a combination of the heartfelt, emotional stories from games like Celeste, What Remains of Edith Finch, and The Beginner's Guide crossed with the gameplay and unique, ever-evolving ideas from the 2D Zeldas and Metroids (specfically A Link Between Worlds and Metroid: Zero Mission), all wrapped up in a mechanic that is straight out of Microsoft Paint.
